How to access scholarships to finance your university studies?

Your academic dedication not only helps you get good grades and stand out in the classroom, but it can also help you be part of a scholarship program and receive a discount on your tuition. You are also eligible for this benefit if you dedicate yourself to sports, art or culture, or belong to a minority group (people with special abilities, indigenous, or deprived of liberty). Also, if your financial situation does not allow you to cover university expenses, the UTP has solutions for you.

In the following article we clear up all your doubts regarding the scholarship program so that you are clear on how to access them and apply today.

What is a scholarship?

It is an economic contribution that is granted to students to study or complete their studies. UTPL maintains a scholarship program to give the opportunity to all students, both Modality Onsite as Mode Open and Distance, discounts for paying your tuition.

Who are they aimed at?

All new students (first cycle) can apply, as well as all current undergraduate and postgraduate students (second cycle onwards).

Why are scholarships awarded?

Abigail Cañar, the coordinator of University Wellbeing, explains that the UTPL, as part of its commitment to society supports the comprehensive training of students with recognition of academic excellence and support for those who do not have the financial means to fulfill their professional dreams.

How many scholarships are awarded at the UTPL?

There is no limit. For each academic cycle, scholarships are awarded according to the profile of the applicants. Every semester there are new students who receive the benefit. In 2018, the UTPL awarded 107 thousand scholarships in the two modalities.

What types of scholarships are there?

There are automatic scholarships, with a discount in the payment of tuition, and application scholarships, in which the most outstanding students are selected for academic merits or student representativeness to grant discounts on their tuition.

What are the categories to which you can apply?

In the previous question, we told you that there are two types of scholarships. Next, we detail the categories of each one.

Discounts are from 10% to 70%.

How can I get a scholarship?

You must be clear about what type of scholarship you want to access and commit to meeting the requirements. You can access more than one scholarship, for example, by academic merit and agreement. There are no limits.

If you are interested in knowing more details, visit becas.utpl.edu.ec, where the information for each one is specified.

What requirements must I meet and where do I present them?

The documentation varies according to the category of scholarship to which you want to apply, but some of the requirements they request are scholarship form, socioeconomic record, copy of identity card, certificates of belonging to cultural and sports clubs, etc.

These papers are delivered to the University Welfare Directorate at the UTPL Loja Campus or at the UTPL Center to which you belong. Here you will also receive advice so that you can successfully complete your application.

If I am a beneficiary, what should I do next?

You must maintain a sense of co-responsibility with the UTPL since in each scholarship there are conditions: some require you to obtain an average of 32 points in each academic cycle and pass all the components.
